Sony Open, SBS Open will hold prequalifiers

For the first time, there will be a prequalifier for the Monday qualifying for the 2006 Sony Open in Hawai'i.
It's a new PGA Tour requirement this year for all opening qualifying events, according to Paul Sugimoto, executive director of the Aloha Section PGA which runs both qualifiers.
Everyone will have to prequalify except PGA and Nationwide tour members not exempt for the Sony Open.
The prequalifier will be held Jan. 4 with the top 50 advancing to the Monday qualifying Jan. 9. Both qualifiers will be held at the Pearl Country Club.
The cost is $200 for the prequalifier and an additional $200 if the golfer advances to the Monday qualifying. Entry forms are available online at www.aloha pga.com or telephone the Aloha Section PGA office at 593-2230 for more information.

A prequalifying tournament for the LPGA's SBS Open at Turtle Bay is scheduled for Jan. 7 at the Turtle Bay Resort Golf Club.
The winner of the prequalifier will play for two tournament spots in the qualifier Feb. 13.
Hawai'i golfers with a 3.4 USGA handicap or less may apply for the prequalifier.
The SBS Open at Turtle Bay, the LPGA's season-opener, is Feb. 16 to 18 at Turtle Bay Resort Golf Club's Palmer Course.

ALOHA SECTION PGA HONORS TOP MEMBERS
The Aloha Section PGA announced award winners for 2005 at its annual luncheon last week.
FOUR GIVEN SPONSOR'S PASS TO MASTERCARD
Ben Crenshaw, Gary Player, Lee Trevino and Lanny Watkins have accepted sponsor invitations for the MasterCard Championship, Jan. 20 to 22 at the Hualalai Golf Club, Ka'uplehu, Kona, Hawai'i.
The MasterCard Championship features winners of the Champions Tour's major championships of the past five years and winners of the tour's tournaments the past two years.
Sponsor invitations can be given to up to four players who have a minimum 30 combined PGA and Champions victories or players with a minimum of 15 combined victories and at least one major championship.
MasterCard defending champion Dana Quigley is expected to be among the 38 players in next year's field.
Trevino has played in 14 MasterCard Championships, including the last eight.
DANIELS CAPTURES BROWN MATCH PLAY
Pualani Daniels defeated Kristen Higa, 3 and 2, to win the women's division of the Francis H. I'i Brown Match Play Invitational on Tuesday at the Mauna Lani Resort on the Big Island.
