Valient Thorr hails from either the planet Venus or North Carolina, depending on whom you want to believe. Both bands are part of the 6th annual Punk on a Rock concert at the Pipeline Cafe.

If punk music is your thing, you already know about the 6th annual Punk on a Rock music festival featuring five acts, 5 p.m. Saturday at the Pipeline Cafe. But we'll remind you anyway.
Here's a little bit about each act:
Andrew W.K. is a classically trained pianist whose discography includes the EP "Girls Own Juice" (2000) and the full-length albums "I Get Wet" (2001) and "The Wolf" (2003). His music has been included in TV commercials, and movie and TV soundtracks, and he even had a short-lived advice show on MTV2. He's working on another album, due to be released next year. A concert DVD, titled "Who Knows?" is scheduled for January.
Good Riddance has toured with NOFX, Down By Law, Millencolin, Sick Of It All and A.F.I. The Santa Cruz, Calif., band formed in 1986 but truly coalesced in the early '90s. Its latest release is "Bound by Ties of Blood and Affection" (2003).
Valient Thorr is a heavy-metal band from Venus (yeah, you read that right) that's trying to spread its punk gospel far and wide. Seems the band crash-landed in North Carolina in 2000 and is now stranded on this big blue marble. Its latest release is "Total Universe Man."
Bleeding Through, a band from the O.C., is heavy on metal, heavy on hard-core, heavy on devastating whatever stage it's on. The band's next release, "The Truth," is set for January.
The 86 List has been on the Honolulu punk scene since October 1999. So by virtue of its continued existence, we might even call it a "venerable" punk band, with three albums to its credit and innumerable appearances in so many sweaty venues.
Doors open at 4 p.m. for Punk on a Rock. Tickets are $18 for the all-ages concert (those younger than 18 must be accompanied by adults). For information, see punkonarock.com.
