TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE
"Pope John Paul II" conclusion, 7 p.m., CBS. In Sunday's opener we saw the young Karol Wojtyla facing repressive authorities — Nazis and then Communists — in Poland. As the second half begins he has become pope. Jon Voight steps into the role, bringing immense warmth and likability. The miniseries skips quickly past controversy. It depicts a world traveler quick to meet people and to forgive the man who shot him.
"Lost," 8 p.m., ABC. This is a terrific rerun centering on Hurley (Jorge Garcia). Jack puts him in charge of the rations found below the hatch. That puts Hurley in a position he hates — being the one everyone envies. Flashbacks offer another example as we discover Hurley's fortune and misfortune. Meanwhile, the raft survivors learn more about the people who have captured them.
OF NOTE
"The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" (2001), 6 p.m., TNT. Here's a fresh chance to see this epic, combining great characters and director Peter Jackson's stunning visuals. It won multiple Academy Awards.
"E-Ring," 7 p.m., NBC. JT is trying to help an Afghan village on Christmas Eve but that becomes more difficult as a Taliban force approaches. Meanwhile, his father asks Samantha for help.
"The George Lopez Show," 7 p.m., ABC. George and his wife compete to see who brings more to the marriage.
"The Triangle" finale, 7, 9, 11 p.m., Sci Fi Channel. The second chapter (which reruns at 5 p.m. today) had the Bermuda Triangle research team overwhelmed by altered realities. Now they concoct a rather extreme explanation. This finale seems like a stretch, with lots of holes; still, it's fun along the way.
"Freddie," 7:30 p.m., ABC. Zoey's mom doesn't want her to have a cell phone. Freddie buys her one anyway and soon finds they have deeper trouble.
"The Apprentice: Martha Stewart," 8 p.m., NBC. Tonight is the final group project, involving creating a video for an airline.
"Project Runway" season-opener, 8 p.m., Bravo. Last season, this series drew strong reviews and solid ratings. Now it's back, with Heidi Klum hosting and 16 fashion designers competing. They range from age 24 to 51. Half are from Los Angeles. One is from Johannesburg, South Africa.
"Knights of the South Bronx," 8 p.m., A&E. If you missed this film's debut Tuesday, catch it now. Ted Danson stars in what's basically the true story of poor kids who became chess champions.
"Law & Order," 9 p.m., NBC. A man who desecrated a Torah has been killed.
"Alias," 9 p.m., ABC. For a while, at least, this well-made show takes over a better time slot. Tonight, newcomer Rachel has a romance that compromises a mission. Now she and Sydney must link with Sark.
