This is how good Spencer McLachlin was this past Interscholastic League of Honolulu volleyball season:

After fighting flu symptoms all day on Sept. 27, he hopped on a bus with his teammates for a key ILH showdown at Kamehameha and proceeded to notch eight kills and six blocks to help the Buffanblu win 25-18, 25-20.

When he was healthy, McLachlin had an even bigger impact than that.

After guiding Punahou through its second straight undefeated season, McLachlin was named ILH Player of the Year in a vote of league coaches.

McLachlin, a 6-foot-7 junior outside hitter, is joined on the ILH all-star first team by three other Buffanblu — senior middle blocker Keali'i Frank, junior setter Riley McKibbin and sophomore libero Erik Shoji.

Also making the first team are Iolani senior setter/outside hitter Kawika Shoji, Kamehameha junior setter/outside hitter Jordan Inafuku, Hawai'i Baptist junior opposite Dominic Hart and Maryknoll junior setter Nick Castello, who attends ASSETS (which does not have its own team).

McLachlin, Frank, Inafuku and the Shoji brothers are repeat first team selections.

Hawai'i Baptist's Teoni Obrey was named Coach of the Year.
