IRS says Hawaii residents owed $10M for unclaimed 2006 refunds
Unclaimed refunds totaling more than $10 million dollars are awaiting 9,500 people in Hawaiçi who did not file a federal income tax return for 2006, the Internal Revenue Service said today.
The median unclaimed refund is $668 per Hawaiçi resident, the IRS said. That compares with the U.S. median of $604 per refund.
Taxpayers who want to collect their share must file a return no later than April 15, the IRS said. Back-year tax refunds cannot be filed electronically, the IRS said.
