Man in his 60s apparently drowns in Makapu'u surf
A man who appeared to be in his 60s died of an apparent drowning Saturday at Makapu'u Beach Park.
Lifeguards were coming on duty around 8:40 a.m. when they saw bystanders pulling a man out of the water, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city's Emergency Services Department.
Lifeguards performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until paramedics arrived.
The man was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Cheplic said.
The surf was about 2 to 3 feet and choppy, Cheplic said.
