HONOLULU — Former television news anchor Ramsay Wharton has filed candidacy papers for the Republican nomination for Hawaii's 2nd Congressional District seat.
Wharton filed her paperwork with the state Office of Elections on Wednesday.
The former KGMB9 news anchor, who lives in Kapolei, will face at least one rival for the nomination, Antonio Gimbernat of Maui. John Willoughby of Honolulu also may run but as of last Thursday had not filed his papers.
The seat is now held by Democratic U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono.
The district covers all of Hawaii except urban Honolulu, which is in the 1st Congressional District.
