At least six families have been sitting in front of the Frank F. Fasi Municipal Building since yesterday to be the first in line tomorrow for camping permits for the Memorial Day weekend two weekends from now.

City park rules state camping enthusiasts can seek reservations on a first-come, first-served basis no earlier than two Fridays prior to the camping period requested.

Reservations may be made no earlier than two Fridays prior to the camping period requested.

Kalihi resident Andy Ramos, the first in line, said he first set down his lawn chair in front of South King Street since 1 p.m. yesterday.

Ramos, who came with three other family members, said he wants to get a camping spot at Waimanalo Beach Park for his family that is "close to the water ... and there's a sink set-up for washing."

It's become a traditional thing for his family. "We do this for Memorial Day, sometimes the Fourth of July, and of course, Labor Day," he said.

As many as 20 to 30 people are camped out in front of Kapolei Hale also waiting for camping permits.
