Advertiser Staff

The Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz is introducing its “Peer-to-Peer” jazz education program in Hawaii’s public schools this week.

The program’s “informances” combine performance with information presented by seven high school music students from the institute’s National Performing Arts High School Jazz Program along with saxophone recording artist Antonio Hart, vocalist Lisa Henry, and jazz educator J.B. Dyas. Also appearing will be Thelonious Monk, Jr., chairman of the the institute’s board of trustees and son of legendary jazz pianist and composer Thelonious Monk.
The tour will conclude with two shows, featuring Hart and Henry alongside jazz’s future “young lions,” tomorrow at Jazz Minds Art & Cafe, 1661 Kapiolani Blvd. The septet will perform standards, jazz classics, and contemporary jazz, as well as compositions from Hart and Henry’s latest CD releases. Shows are set for at 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. For more information, call 945-0800 or visit www.honolulujazzclub.com.
