Maui author and illustrator Jamie David will read and sign her newly published "Johann Sebastian Humpbach," a suspenseful adventure novel aimed at Hawai'i tweens.
Native Books/Na Mea Hawai'i at Ward Warehouse is hosting the reading today at 2:30 p.m.
The novel tells the story of Johann Sebastian Humpbach, the world's most popular singing whale, who has vanished during his migration from Alaska to Hawai'i. Keoni and Leilani, 12-year-old twins, join their aunt and uncle to search for Johann.
David, a former teacher, said she wanted to give local children who don't like to read something they can relate to, which is why she decided to write a book set in Hawai'i.
