NFL: WR Nate Burleson tweets that he has joined Lions
Associated Press
ALLEN PARK, Mich. — Free agent wide receiver Nate Burleson has joined the Detroit Lions.
Burleson tweeted Saturday morning: "It is official so "Go Lions."
Media reports had the Lions agreeing to terms on a $25 million, five-year contract with Burleson on Friday, but the team wouldn't comment and his agent did not return a phone message.
Burleson caught 63 passes last season for the Seattle Seahawks and returned 30 punts.
The Lions will count on him to complement receiver Calvin Johnson and perhaps give their special teams a reliable returner.
Detroit gave its defense a boost Friday by adding defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch and defensive tackle Corey Williams.
The Lions have set an NFL record with just two victories in two seasons, including a winless 2008.
