Quake strikes off N.California; no tsunami threat expected

FERNDALE, Calif — A 6.5 magnitude earthquake has struck off the Northern California coast, about 27 miles southwest of Eureka.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake hit around 4:27 Saturday afternoon. Officials say they heard the quake caused some power outages, but there were no immediate reports of injury or damage.
No Pacific-wide tsunami is expected from the quake and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Ewa Beach said in an advisory regarding the event.
USGS geophysicist Richard Buckmaster says the quake was felt as far south as Capitola, and as far north as Tiller, Ore.
The San Francisco Bay area was struck by two light earthquakes on Thursday and Friday.
