Public Works officials opened bids Dec. 30 for construction of the Ane Keohokalole Highway, Director Warren Lee said.

Bids ranged from about $30 million to $37 million to build the first segment of the mid-level Kona road, which would run from Palani Road to Hina Lani Street, West Hawaii Today reported. Lee said the department was reviewing the bids' adherence to the project specifications, as well as checking the submittals' math, to make sure the final quoted price was accurate.

Lee expected to announce a bid winner in one to two weeks.
