University of Hawai'i senior Amber Kaufman is one 10 athletes selected to the official watch list for The Bowerman, a recently debuted trophy awarded to the top female and male collegiate athlete in track and field.
The list was announced Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Kaufman is tied with Arizona's Liz Patterson, also on the watch list, for the collegiate lead in the high jump. Kaufman leaped 6 feet, 3[0xbc] inches (1.91 meters), at altitude, at New Mexico's Lobo Challenge two weeks ago. That came about five weeks after she closed an honorable mention All-America volleyball season for the Rainbow Wahine at the final four.
The 10 athletes currently on the watch list include six new names from the 10 listed in the preseason. The 10 listed represent 11 collegiate leading marks from the 2010 season, one current world and American leader, and three national records.
The Bowerman Advisory Board appointed four of its members to comprise The Bowerman Men's Watch Committee and another four for The Bowerman Women's Watch Committee. The committee will release its next update March 2, 10 days before the start of the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Three female and three male finalists will be named June 15.
