Fitness expert combines Pilates, yoga

Mind/body fitness expert Tom McCook is coming to Honolulu Feb. 19-21 for a weekend of classes and workshops at On Balance Pilates Studio in Kailua. His unique approach combines Pilates and yoga with the Franklin Method. The 1 1/4-hour classes will focus on balls and bands and mat exercises. The three-hour workshops will include a posture and alignment workshop, as well as one focusing on the upper body and the other on the lower body. Each class is $35 or both for $60; workshops are $100 for one, $180 for two, $250 for three. To attend all five sessions: $300.

KANAKA IKAIKA
ISLAND'S PADDLERS PREPARE FOR RACES
Paddlers have been hitting the open ocean off O'ahu for the start of the Kanaka Ikaika Racing Association's outrigger canoe relays. The five-month paddling series takes challengers 20.5 miles from Waimānalo Beach to Magic Island or eight miles from Sandy Beach to Kaimana Beach.
