PAGO PAGO, American Samoa — The High Court of American Samoa has dismissed criminal charges against the wife of Attorney General Fepuleai A. Ripley Jr. and Deputy Police Commissioner Michael Fuiava Sr.
The court held Tuesday that the 2008 law that established the Office of Independent Prosecutor was unconstitutional.
Charges against Marie Ripley and Fuiava were filed in November by Independent Prosecutor Faamomoi Masaniai. He says he will appeal the court's decision.
The case involved the issuance of a diver's license to a foreign national using someone else's Social Security number.
Ripley is the manager of the U.S. territory's Office of Motor Vehicles.
