NEW YORK — Louisiana Tech hurdler Antoinette Cobb has won the Honda Inspiration Award after her comeback from colon cancer.
Cobb, of Zachary, La., was selected to the All-Western Athletic Conference team for the indoor and outdoor seasons as a freshman. Soon after, she was diagnosed with colon cancer.
She missed her sophomore year to undergo chemotherapy before returning to competition in 2008. After seven months of training, she posted the seventh-best 100-meter hurdle time in the nation at 13.07 seconds.
She led her team to consecutive WAC championships in her junior and senior seasons, earning four individual WAC titles for indoor and outdoor competition during that time.
Cobb will be honored June 21 at a ceremony in Los Angeles.
