Photographer Chick Alsop will present "A Sisterhood in the Himalaya," a travelogue slide presentation, at the Hawaii State Library on Thursday, June 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the First Floor Reading Room.

Admission is free.

The slide presentation will offer a look at Alsop's adventures as a volunteer teacher in the remote Buddhist Himalaya of Northern India. The setting is the picturesque Zanskar Valley an isolated and rugged valley cut off from the outside world by mountainous terrain, snow and ice for seven months of the year. The presentation will also feature the Dalai Lama's three days of teachings in Zanskar, a colorful and influential extravaganza attended by 30,000 pilgrims.

Alsop, a retired pilot of the former Aloha Airlines, has always had a passion for adventure and cultural travel. For the past two decades, Alsop has conducted photo exhibitions, travel presentations, and has done some writing.

The program is suitable for all ages. Contact the Library as soon as possible if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed.

Hawaii State Library is located at 478 South King Street. For more information, please call the Library's Language, Literature and History Section at 586-3499.
