Ran into a new product in the supermarket the other day: Orowheat Sandwich Thins. They're skinny, whole wheat rounds about the size of a hamburger bun with 19 grams of whole grain, 5 grams of fiber, no transfats, 100 calories each (this is as opposed to 110 calories or more per slice for a regular wheat bread). They're light and savory.

They're split like a hamburger bun and can be toasted or filled with a sandwich filling or a spread such as a nut butter, cheese spread or hummus. You get eight to a package and they retail for about $4.50 a bit pricey, but they make you feel good and healthy.

Asparagus at 3660: Russell Siu at 3660 on the Rise is doing a last-of-the-season asparagus dinner tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $75 for five courses, including cream of asparagus soup with crabmeat, poached scallops with asparagus in puff pastry and a truffle-accented sauce, roasted duck with asparagus risotto, veal loin with asparagus and lobster and a chocolate dessert. Call 737-1177.

Hāmākua Lychee: Big Island lychee are back at The Wine Stop from co-owner Liane Fu's sister's farm on the Hāmākua Coast. They're taking orders now. She said they're not as big as last year's but just as sweet. They're $6.99 a pound. Call 946-3707.

Maui Tacos recipes: Recipes from the Maui Tacos Flavors of Aloha restaurant chain are now available on Maui Tacos' Facebook page new each month. May's is a tribute to Maui's 100-year history of growing pineapple: Maui Pineapple Passion Salsa. Also see it at http://www.mauitacos.com/recipes.htm.
