Advertiser Staff

The man killed Saturday on the H-1 Freeway when he was bent over fixing a tow rope and was struck from behind by another vehicle has been identified, according to the Honolulu Medical Examiner.

The man has been identified as Poasi Paongo, 39, of Waianae. The man had stopped his pickup truck near the Kapolei exit in the right lane of the H-1 Freeway and was checking a tow rope on a vehicle he was pulling.

A third vehicle crashed from behind, crushing Paongo between his truck and the vehicle he was towing. He was pronounced dead at the scene following the 1:35 a.m. accident. Paongo was the 29th traffic fatality of the year on Oahu, the same number at this time last year.
