The 'Oiwi Film Festival, under way at the Doris Duke Theatre, showcases cinema directed and produced by Native Hawaiian filmmakers.

This weekend's theme of "sovereignty" is detailed in the films "Release Our Water" and "Noho Hewa: The Wrongful Occupation of Hawai'i."

Today's show times are 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

A panel of filmmakers will assemble at 4 p.m. tomorrow to discuss topics such as ownership and control issues tied to stories about Native Hawaiian culture.

Get tickets for the films, at $5 to $8, at www.honoluluacademy.tix.com.
