Woman dies in single-vehicle crash on Kaukonahua Road
One woman died and another is in fair condition following a single-vehicle crash early this morning on Kaukonahua Road in the Wahiawa direction.
According to police, the two women were in a Ford Explorer heading north at 2:36 a.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle at the S-turn of the road. The vehicle crossed the roadway, collided with a guardrail on the right, then flipped over before coming to a stop.
The driver, a 28-year-old Waialua woman, was ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger, a 21-year-old woman from Aiea, was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in fair condition.
The road was closed following accident and reopened around 7 a.m.
Police said speed appeared to be a factor. It is not yet known if drugs or alcohol were involved.
This was the 21st traffic fatality of the year, compared to 25 last year.
