2nd-degree murder charge for woman in stabbing case

Advertiser Staff

A 61-year-old Kalihi woman was charged yesterday in connection with the stabbing death Monday of her mother.

Claudia Warner-Gonzales was charged with one count of second-degree murder, and her bail was set at $500,000. She is expected to make her initial appearance in Honolulu District Court this morning.

Warner-Gonzales is accused of stabbing her 88-year-old mother, Dorothy Stribling, in the chest at the elder woman's Nu'uanu home Monday morning.

An autopsy determined that Stribling bled to death from a stab wound to her chest, according to the city medical examiner's office. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Police have not said what may have led to the stabbing. Warner-Gonzales did not live with her mother, but visited her frequently, neighbors said.

If convicted, Warner-Gonzales faces a mandatory prison term of life with the possibility of parole.
