Byron, Heinrich win Hawaii's CrossFit Sectionals

Andrew Byron of Kailua and Katie Heinrich of Honolulu won the CrossFit Sectionals, a multi-discipline competition, at CrossFit Oahu on March 13 and 14.
Byron, 23, is a student at Hawai�i Pacific University. Heinrich, 32, is an assistant professor in public health at the University of Hawai�i.
The top three men and women in the sectionals qualified for the regionals, May 8 and 9, in Orange County, Calif. Erik Alvarez placed second in the men's sectional, followed by Adam Jamieson. In the women's competition, Mahina Lui-Kwan was second and Emilia Quezada third.
More than 40 Hawai�i athletes entered the competition, which was open to the public.
The event included tests on lifting, gymnastics, flexibility and endurance, including one-legged squats, 20-foot hands-only rope climb, heavy clean-and-jerk, and a 500-meter row.
