DOE to spend $9M on projects at 4 Hawaii schools

Associated Press

HONOLULU — The state Department of Education will be spending more than $9 million on capital improvement projects at four public schools on Oahu.

The DOE plans to use nearly $8 million for ongoing classroom renovations at Kaimuki High School, Lunalilo Elementary School and the Hawaii School for the Deaf and the Blind.
In addition, $1.5 will go for drainage improvements to the football field and track at Leilehua High School.
The project includes installing a new track surface to help protect the football field from dirt, debris and flooding.
State officials said Monday that the field and track flood and get muddy when it rains, creating potentially unsafe playing and practice conditions. Some $3 million was previously released for the project in 2007 and 2009.
