High surf advisory for Oahu's south shore extended

Advertiser Staff

A high surf advisory for OÁahuís south shores has been extended until 6 p.m. Monday, the National Weather Service said.

Waves of 8 to 10 feet were reported at beaches in WaikÔkÔ and other south shores yesterday.
The Weather Service said the southern swell is the effect of several large storms near New Zealand that were moving east about a week ago.
Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the cityís Emergency Services Department, reported that lifeguards in the Ala Moana-Waikiki area on Saturday made five rescues, 28 assists using personal watercraft and issued more than 500 preventive actions.
Beachgoers are advised to exercise extreme caution and to check with lifeguards before entering the water.
