NFL: Packers TE Havner arrested after Calif crash

Associated Press

GRASS VALLEY, Calif. — Prosecutors in Northern California said Wednesday they were waiting for a police report before deciding whether to file drunken-driving charges against Green Bay Packers tight end Spencer Havner.

The 27-year-old Havner was arrested for suspicion of drunken driving Monday after he lost control of his motorcycle on private property and crashed about 2:45 a.m. in his hometown of Grass Valley, about 55 miles north of Sacramento.
The police report said Havner suffered “major” injuries. Officers told The Associated Press they couldn’t elaborate.
Mark Humenik, whose agency represents Havner, said Havner’s injuries were minor, including a broken shoulder blade, “but he should be fully recovered in short order.”
The Packers released a one-line statement saying they had spoken to Havner about his injuries and were monitoring the situation.
The California Highway Patrol asked the district attorney’s office in Nevada County, Calif., to charge Havner with driving under the influence of alcohol. A clerk said no paperwork had arrived as of Wednesday morning.
The police report said Havner was not wearing a helmet. Because the crash occurred on private property California’s helmet law didn’t apply, police said, but drunken-driving laws would still be in effect.
