KCC cybrarian presents 'Hawaii Nisei Story'

Advertiser Staff

Shari Y. Tamashiro, a “cybrarian” for Kapiolani Community College, will discuss “The Hawaii Nisei Story” during a program set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Aina Haina Public Library.

“The Hawaii Nisei Story” is a Web-based exploration of the experiences of local Americans of Japanese ancestry preceding, during, and following World War II.
These stories - gleaned from oral interviews with veterans of the 100th Infantry Battalion, the 1399th Engineering Construction Battalion, the Military Intelligence Service, and the Varsity Victory Volunteers - also include seldom-heard stories of the veterans' wives and families.
Tamashiro recently presented "The Hawaii Nisei Story" at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). This program is recommended for adults and seniors.
