Utah State holds off Rainbow Wahine, 53-51

Banna Diop's 11 points and eight rebounds helped Utah State to a 53-51 victory over Hawai‘i in the Western Athletic Conference women's basketball regular-season finale for both teams at Logan, Utah.

The Rainbow Wahine (10-19 overall and 4-12 WAC) will the be the No. 8 seed in the WAC tournament and open against No. 1 seed Fresno State on Wednesday in Reno, Nev. Utah State is 13-16 overall and 5-11 in the WAC.
Dita Liepkalne led UH with 13 points and eight rebounds.
With the score tied at 41, a layup by Alice Coddington gave Utah State the lead for good with 6:43 remaining.
The Rainbow Wahine closed Utah State's lead to 52-51 on a layup by Keisha Kanekoa with 11 seconds to go. The Aggies' TaHara Williams hit the first of two free-throw attempts for a 53-51 lead with 9 seconds left. Kanekoa missed on a layup attempt as time expired.
Utah State led, 25-21, at halftime.
