Nick Orvin, Matt Simonelli and Kyle Jordan each drove in two runs to help The Citadel romp Hawai‘i, 9-5, in the opener of a doubleheader today at Les Murakami Stadium.

Orvin and Jordan each homered, while Simonelli hit a two-run double.
Asher Wojciechowski (3-0) went five innings, allowing five runs (four earned), seven hits and five walks with five strikeouts for the Bulldogs (7-1), winners of five in a row. Nick Sprowls tagged on three scoreless innings and Raymond Copenhaver allowed a hit and a walk after striking out the lead-off batter to start the ninth. But Matt Reifsnider, who came in with the tying run on deck, retired the last two batters for his first save.
Matt Sisto (1-2) allowed eight runs, 10 hits and a walk with three strikeouts in six-plus innings for the Rainbows (4-6), who have dropped three in a row. Blair Walters allowed a run in three innings.
The Bulldogs wasted little time getting on the board, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Nick Orvin led off with a double to left and two outs later, scored on Bryan Altman's double to right.
The Rainbows tied it in the bottom of the first. Sean Montplaisir and Greg Garcia drew successive walks. Kolten Wong reached first when he grounded to second for a force at second, as Montplaisir took third. Collin Bennett delivered an RBI single to right to tie the game at 1.
The Citadel quickly broke the deadlock with a three-run second. With one out, Justin Mackert singled off Sisto¹s glove, stole second, went to third when Legare Jones grounded out to short and scored when William Ladd singled to third baseman Pi‘ikea Kitamura, who made a diving stop on the ball, but couldn't get the ball out of his glove to make a throw. Orvin homered to center to make it 4-1.
The Rainbows responded with three of their own in the bottom of the second to tie the game again. Kevin Macdonald led off with a wind-aided homer to right. Kitamura followed with a triple to right. Matt Roquemore reached on a single to third, holding Kitamura, who scored on third baseman David Greene's throwing error that allowed Roquemore to take third. Montplaisir grounded out to first to score Roquemore to tie the game at 4. The Citadel broke the tie on Kyle Jordan's lead-off homer to left in the top of the fourth to make it 5-4.
Hawai‘i tied it in the bottom of the fifth. David Freitas and Jeffrey Van Doornum hit back-to-back singles, each on first pitches, to put runners at first and second. Macdonald singled to left to load the bases, but Kitamura grounded to short for a double play that scored Freitas to tie the game at 5.
The Bulldogs regained the lead again. Jordan singled to center with one out in the sixth and scored on Mackert's double to left.
The Citadel cushioned its lead in a three-run seventh. Orvin led off with a single to third and went to third on Felder's double to left. Sisto was pulled for Blair Walters. With the infield playing in, Matt Simonelli's two-run double increased The Citadel's lead to 8-5. Simonelli took third when Altman flied out to deep center. After Greene struck out, Jordan's ground single to left scored Simonelli to make it 9-5.
