Tino Reyes, who was associate head coach of the University of Hawai‘i men’s volleyball team for 17 seasons, has been named interim head coach of the UH-Hilo women’s volleyball team.

Reyes’ first act will be to hire Mike Wilton, who retired as UH head coach after 17 seasons, as his top assistant. Wilton’s wife is from Hilo, and the couple had owned a house there.
Reyes was a finalist for the UH head job vacated when Wilton announced he would retire. Charlie Wade was named as Wilton’s successor.
Reyes spent the past few months serving as head coach of the Outrigger boys 18 team.
Reyes will coach the Vulcans during the 2010 season. UH-Hilo will advertise for a permanent head coach in the fall, although a selection will not be made until after the 2010 season.
