New facility due for UH's Hawaiian language program

Advertiser Staff

The University of Hawai'i-Hilo's College of Hawaiian Language will be getting its own building.

State lawmakers approved $28 million in construction funding during the 2010 legislative session.

Chancellor Rose Tseng credits passage to Gov. Linda Lingle and other officials who made funding the project a priority.

The college's operations are now spread out over three locations on campus.

The new 37,000-square-foot structure will be on a three-acre parcel next to the Imiloa Astronomy Center of Hawai'i in the University Park of Science and Technology.

The facility will include six classrooms, as well as 30 offices. Specialty use rooms will include a library, curriculum and media resource room.
