HPU to host Girls & Women's Day

Advertiser Staff

Hawai'i Pacific University will join thousands of coaches, athletic directors, students, parents and sports educators with a Girls & Women In Sports Day Sunday. The community event will be on the Hawai'i Loa Campus. It is run by female student-athletes and graduate assistants.

There will be clinics for softball, soccer, tennis, volleyball, basketball, and cross country. Each participant will have the opportunity to receive instruction and training in each sport in 20-minute increments. Action Rehab will have its own clinic, teaching girls and their parents quick exercises to prevent knee injuries.

Clinics begin at 10 a.m. and are free. Participants can register on site.

National Girls & Women In Sports Day will be recognized nationally Feb. 3.

"The reason for the event is to honor and celebrate female participation in sports," said HPU Coordinator of Athletic Marketing Lauren Conching, the event organizer. "We want to encourage young girls to continue playing sports, not only for a healthy lifestyle, but to also give them the confidence and tools needed to succeed in life. My hope for this day is that our HPU female student-athletes will not only serve as role models for these young girls, but also give them inspiration to continue their involvement in athletics."
