Volunteers sought for Hawaii humpback whale-counting effort

The Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary will use volunteers to count whales from shoreline locations on Oçahu, Kauaçi and the Big Island on Saturday, Feb. 27 and March 27.

The counts are from 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Volunteers may sign up online at www.sanctuaryoceancount.org or by calling, on Oçahu, 397-2651, ext. 253 or 1-888-55-WHALE, ext. 253; on the Big Island, 1-888-55-WHALE ext. 253; or on Kauaçi, 246-2860.
Also on Feb. 27, the Pacific Whale Foundation on Maui will hold a whale count on Maui. To assist in that count, e-mail to researchdirector@pacificwhale.org.
