U.S. Census Bureau seeking to hire Hawaii workers

Associated Press

HONOLULU — The U.S. Census Bureau is looking to hire about 3,000 people in Hawaii to help conduct this year’s census.

To do that, the agency says it needs a pool of about 20,000 qualified applicants. Most of the census takers will start to be hired around the first part of March.
Those wishing to become a census worker must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, have a valid Social Security number and pass a background check. They must also pass a basic skills test.
The Census Bureau is offering temporary jobs, part-time up to 40 hours per week. Office workers earn $12.75 an hour, census takers are paid $17 an hour, and supervisory positions pay more.
Census takers are needed throughout the state, and testing and training are provided on all islands.
