An 11-year-old boy was in critical condition yesterday after the bicycle he was riding was struck by an SUV on 'Ähuimanu Place near Hui Ulili Street.

Police said the boy was riding down the sidewalk then turned into the street and was hit.

The boy was taken to The Queen's Medical Center with head injuries.

ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGE UPGRADED

Darrel David Wright Jr., 49, was charged with murder in the second degree yesterday in connection with an attack on his 85-year-old grandmother that took place Dec. 16.

She died at 3:13 p.m. yesterday. As a result, the attempted murder charge against Wright has been upgraded.

Wright, who is from 'Aiea Heights, had called police himself to report the Dec. 16 attack.

Wright remains in police custody with bail set at $500,000.
