CBKB: AD says Calhoun ailment not career threatening

By PAT EATON-ROBB

HARTFORD, Conn. — Connecticut’s athletic director says Jim Calhoun ’s medical condition is not career threatening, but there is no timetable for the basketball coach’s return.

Jeff Hathaway spoke Wednesday before the Huskies (11-6, 2-3) Big East game with St. John’s.
He would not say what is ailing the 67-year-old Hall of Famer, but said it has nothing to do with his previous bouts with cancer and is not heart related.
Calhoun announced Tuesday that he is taking an indefinite medical leave of absence.
Associate head coach George Blaney says he does not know how long he’ll be coaching the Huskies, but plans to take in on a day-to-day basis.
Blaney says Calhoun told him that his doctor advised him to take time off.
