Driver's license office to install new ID system

Advertiser Staff

Only written tests will be offered at the Kaua'i County Driver's License Division tomorrow, from 3 to 4 p.m., to allow for the installation of a new identification system. No permits or licenses will be processed during the installation.

Normal operations are expected to resume Thursday, the Garden Island newspaper reported.

The licensing office is at 4444 Rice St. in Līhu'e.

The new ID system, which utilizes biometrics, is being installed throughout the state to comply with a U.S. Department of Homeland Security mandate.

The system is designed to integrate fingerprint matching and facial recognition technologies in order to enhance state and national security and reduce identity theft.

For more information, contact the Driver's License Division at 808-241-4242.
