Denver man dies of injuries on Big Island

A 62-year-old Colorado man died Tuesday of injuries sustained in an motorcycle crash last week on the Big Island, police said.
The victim has been identified as Herman A. Dietrich of Denver.

Hawaiçi County police said Dietrich and his wife were traveling east on Akaka Falls Road when Dietrich lost control and ran off the right side of the road about 2:17 p.m. Thursday.
Dietrich's wife was a passenger on the motorcycle.
Both were taken to Hilo Medical Center. Herman Dietrich was pronounced dead at the hospital yesterday.
Dietrich and his wife were wearing helmets, police said.
It is not determined if speeding, alcohol or drugs were involved.
Traffic Enforcement Unit officers initiated a coroner’s inquest and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
It was the fourth traffic fatality of the year on the Big Island, compared to one at this time last year.
