The University of Hawai’i men’s basketball team rebounded from a forgettable loss with a memorable win tonight.
Hiram Thompson made two free throws with 2.1 seconds remaining to give the Rainbow Warriors a 68-67 victory over San Jose State.

A crowd of 3,315 at the Stan Sheriff Center watched the ‘Bows imrpove to 9-9 overall and 2-3 in the Western Athletic Conference. The Spartans dropped to 9-8 and 2-3.

The Spartans took a 67-66 lead with 19.4 seconds remaining on a breakaway dunk by Chris Oakes off a Hawai’i turnover.

San Jose State’s Justin Graham then missed the front end of a 1-and-1 free throw situation with 6 seconds remaining, giving Hawai’i a final possession.

Thompson drove the length of the court and was fouled near the basket by Oakes with 2.1 seconds remaining. After a timeout, Thompson sank both free
throws.

Brandon Adams and Jeremy Lay led the ‘Bows with 19 points each. Thompson scored 14, and Roderick Flemings had 10 points and eight assists.

The first half was a back-and-forth battle. Hawai’i led by as many as nine points early, then trailed by as many as five, and then regained the lead and took a 42-39 lead at intermission.

The Spartans opened the second half with an 11-4 surge to take a 50-46 lead. It stayed close the rest of the way.

Graham led San Jose State with 21 points.
