Ever wonder why the Mayan calendar ends on Dec. 21, 2012?
Peter Coeppens and Geoff Stray’s 2008 film “2012: Mayan Prophecy and the Shift of the Ages” might not answer the question, but it could get viewers thinking about whether the ancient Mayans knew something significant about the date.

The film explores Mayan mysteries and the great cycle of ages, challenges doomsday prophets and argues that 2012 will not be a time of apocalyptic end times, but a new beginning that will require profound change.
Part of the University of Hawaiçi Indigenous Wisdom Program film series, “2012” will be shown in the Mänoa Campus Spalding Hall Auditorium at 5 p.m. tomorrow.
