Kane'ohe native Dean Wilson shot a 1-under-par 69 today in the third round of the Sony Open in Hawai'i.

Wilson was at 3-under 207 and tied for 33rd, eight strokes behind leaders Robert Allenby (67) and Ryan Palmer (68).

Hilo's Kevin Hayashi shot a 5-over-par-75 today and finished in 80th place. The low 70 and ties advanced to tomorrow's final round at Waialae Country Club.

Wilson had birdies on Nos. 3 and 5, both par-4s, but bogeyed the par-4 No. 6 to make the turn at 1 under. He bogeyed the par-4 No. 13, but got the shot back with a birdie at the par-3 No. 17.

Wilson and Hayashi were the only players with Hawai'i ties to make the weekend cut.

After a bogey on the first hole, Hayashi stringed together 10 consecutive pars before running into trouble. He would bogey Nos. 12, 13, and 15, all par-4s and the par-3 No. 17.

Hayashi, a six-time Aloha Section PGA Player of the year, made the weekend cut for the first time in nine tries in a PGA event at Waialae Country Club.

Four others with local ties — TJ Kua, Nick Mason, Parker McLachlin and Tadd Fujikawa —- missed the cut yesterday.
