It's tough to make a serious case for a breakfast of chocolate, but we might have a fair substitute that's less of a stretch. Godiva's new line of medium-roast coffees come in a variety of flavors, from Chocolate Truffle to Hazelnut Creme, but we like their unflavored Breakfast Blend the best. One tester said of her decaf trial, "Reminds me of my beloved 85-percent- cocoa dark chocolate squares." The 12-ounce bags are at grocery stores nationwide for about $9. EATING WELL WHILE CAPPING CALORIES

Don't let the title turn you off. If you're starting the new year with some pounds you'd like to offload, the folks at Eating Well magazine have just the cookbook for you: "Eating Well: 500-Calorie Dinners" by senior food editor Jessie Price and nutrition editor Nicci Micco (Countryman Press, $24.95, 222 pages).

Taste-wise, there's nothing grim or stingy about the dishes within: Delectable entrees range from seared chicken with apricot sauce to toasted quinoa with scallops and snow peas, and honey-soy broiled salmon. Each of the recipes is served up with suggested sides and dessert that add up to a 500-calorie meal.
