Matson to raise fuel surcharge to 27.5% effective Feb. 7

Matson Navigation Co. said today it will raise its fuel surcharge by 3.5 percentage points, from 24 to 27.5 percent for its Hawai�i service.
The state's largest shipping company said the increase will be effective Feb. 7.
In addition to the icrease for its Hawai�i service, Matson is also hiking the surcharge on its Guam/CNMI and Micronesia service from 25.5 percent to 29 percent.
The company notified customers in a letter that went out today saying the increase was a result of rapidly rising fuel related costs.
