MLB: Jason Bay introduced as Mets' new left fielder

Associated Press

NEW YORK — Jason Bay has donned a New York Mets jersey and says playing for the team was always at the top of his list.

The slugging left fielder was introduced by the team Tuesday.

Bay completed his $66 million, four-year deal that could be worth $80 million. He is the Mets' first splashy move of the offseason. New York went 70-92 last season in its first year at expansive Citi Field.

Bay, a three-time All-Star, set career highs of 36 homers and 119 RBIs for the Boston Red Sox last season. He is expected to add power to a lineup that hit only 95 home runs during an injury-wrecked season.

The 31-year-old Bay will bring stability to a position that was manned mostly by Gary Sheffield and Daniel Murphy last season.
