Coast Guard monitoring sailboat aground off Kahe Point

Advertiser Staff

The Coast Guard was monitoring a 38-foot sailboat that ran aground about 2 p.m. Monday off the Kahe power plant on the leeward coast.

Coast Guard investigators said the Priscilla Mary was carrying 10 gallons of fuel but that there were no immediate reports of pollution.
At the time of the incident, the Priscilla Mary was anchored while its passengers were snorkeling, the Coast Guard said. The wind picked up and pushed the vessel toward the shore before the owner could avoid running the boat aground, the Coast Guard said.
No injuries to the seven passengers were reported.
Honolulu Fire Department and Police Department personnel were the first on scene. Coast Guard pollution investigators responded about 3:30 p.m.
The owner plans to have the vessel removed. Coast Guard personnel remained on scene to monitor the situation.
