Narcissus queen to be crowned this week

The 61st Narcissus Festival Queen Pageant will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hawaii Theatre Center.
Tickets are available through the box office for $29 and $34.
The pageant will establishes the new queen and court for 2010. Contestants are evaluated on their speech, talent, beauty, and a presentation of their personalized Cheong Sam.
The pageant is comprised of four judged parts: talent, Cheong Sam gown phase, and a question and answer phase based on Chinese history and traditions. Each individual attends a private interview with the judges immediately before the pageant that addresses topics of personal interests to political issues affecting Hawai’i.
Other title holders include “Miss Talent” (determined by highest talent score earned), “Miss Popularity” (contestant who sold the most pageant tickets and souvenir annuals), and “Miss Congeniality” (voted by all contestants, qualifies as the friendliest and most companionable).
Contestants must be at least half Chinese, a resident of Hawaiçi and between the ages of 19 and 26.
