Radford High won the grand national champion title at the NCA National Cheerleading Championship Tuesday at the Dallas Convention Center.

Radford, competing in the coed advanced high school division, had the highest two-day average score in any division with 95.62 out of 100.

Carl Sandburg High School (large advanced division) of Orland Park, Ill., was second overall with 95.47, followed by Choctaw High School (94.60) of Choctaw, Okla., which placed second to Radford in the coed advanced division.

Radford also earned specialty awards for best use of jumps and superior showmanship.

"We are extremely proud to represent Radford High School and the entire state of Hawai'i," said Radford coach Bo Frank. "I have had many special teams in my 10 years at Radford, but this team proved to be the best, we have black (champions) jackets to prove it."

More than 150 teams competed in the championships, including state champions from Texas, Illinois, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Indiana.

Radford also placed third in the time out dance division, fifth in the fight song division and seventh in the sideline cheer division.

Team members are seniors Tiana Paling, Malyssa Barbasa, Rachel Gines, Chris Fletcher, Hunter Kea, and Melissa Lowe; juniors Kaycee Kealoha, Amber Sistoza and Liko Sevaaetasi; sophomore Ridge Frank, and freshmen Kyly Antonio and Jazzy Paling.

The coaches are Bo Frank, Thomas Luna and Travis Thomason.
