Evacuation buses on duty on Waianae Coast

Advertiser Staff

City buses on special evacuation duty are plying the Waianae Coast.

Meanwhile, outreach workers were urging the large number of homeless in the vicinity of Keeau Beach Park to take advantage of the buses.
About 15 people from the area had already chosen the evacuation bus and were taken to a shelter at Nanakuli High and Intermediate School.
The buses were accepting pets as well as people.
Many of the homeless decided to stay put, while others were planning their own evacuation.
A man and woman were piling their belongings into a 1987 maroon Nissan along with their eight cats and two dogs. The pair said they planned to head for higher ground.
Farrington Highway will be closed at Ko Olina at 10 a.m., and Kimo Kaonohi, road supervisor for TheBus, said the special evacuation buses would make one last sweep before that.
