Kerrigan's brother freed on bail in dad's assault

Associated Press

WOBURN, Mass. — The brother of figure skater Nancy Kerrigan has been released on bail after being charged with assaulting his father at their Boston-area home shortly before he died.

Mark Kerrigan posted $10,000 bail Wednesday morning in Woburn District Court. He had been taken to a jail after completing a psychiatric evaluation at a hospital.

A family spokesman declined to comment.

Kerrigan's family said last week that they planned to post his bail. A judge ruled he can go back to live with his mother in the family's home in Stoneham. That's where the alleged assault took place.

Seventy-year-old Daniel Kerrigan died last month after a fight with his son. Prosecutors charged 45-year-old Mark Kerrigan with assault and have said they are deciding whether to upgrade the charge.
